Eight Teams Compete after Preliminary Rounds by Division... Hubanbu-Donghu Co., Ltd. Wins Grand Prize
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (Director Lee Jin-su) held a TBM (Tool Box Meeting) Best Practice Competition to enhance employees' safety management capabilities and raise safety awareness.
TBM is a safety prevention activity where all workers gather before work to confirm the work details and share work procedures and methods, aiming to resolve potential risk factors in advance. This has the effect of improving workers' compliance with safety rules and concentration during work.
Gwangyang Steelworks held this competition to prevent accidents in advance by discovering key potential risks through establishing a proper TBM culture at the steelworks work sites and implementing thorough safety measures accordingly.
The 2022 TBM Best Practice Competition at Gwangyang Steelworks featured eight teams, each consisting of departments partnering with contractors, presenting and sharing TBM best practices through videos, providing an opportunity to once again raise safety awareness among executives and employees.
The grand prize was awarded to the Heavy Plate Division of Gwangyang Steelworks and contractor Donghoo Co., Ltd. for their presentation on the "TBM Procedure Before Upper Dust Collection Work of the Blast Furnace Crane at the 3rd Steel Plant." They focused on additional identification of potential risks during TBM and the establishment and implementation of definite and immediate safety measures, contributing to creating a safe working environment.
Kim In-seok, leader of Donghoo Co., Ltd., who received the grand prize, said, "I believe TBM is the beginning and the last resort for securing safety," adding, "I hope the TBM case we presented will become the foundation and take root among all employees at Gwangyang Steelworks and its contractors in the future."
After the presentations, Gwangyang Steelworks held a "Safety Competency Certification Ceremony" for four TBM leaders who oversee TBM at each work site, pledging to make further efforts to raise safety awareness within the steelworks.
Lee Jin-su, Director of Gwangyang Steelworks, said, "I hope that not only Gwangyang Steelworks but also all workers including contractors continuously recognize potential risks in daily work and always prioritize safety," adding, "Based on people-centered safety competency enhancement, I hope TBM becomes ingrained in daily routines and that continuous improvement through communication and empathy leads to progressive development."
