Jeonju City Accelerates Construction and Relocation of Jeonju Indoor Gymnasium
Total Project Cost of 52.2 Billion KRW Invested... Completion Targeted by the End of Next Year
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jeonju City announced on the 7th that the project to relocate the Jeonju Indoor Gymnasium, which has been standing for 49 years, to a new site near Jeonju World Cup Stadium will be in full swing.
The newly relocated indoor gymnasium will be constructed from this year until the end of next year in the Jang-dong World Cup Stadium area, creating a multipurpose gymnasium capable of hosting various ball sports games such as professional basketball Jeonju KCC home games, basketball, volleyball, handball, and badminton.
With a total project cost of 52.2 billion KRW, it will be built on a site area of 21,186㎡ with a total floor area of 19,078㎡, consisting of one basement floor and three above-ground floors, and a seating capacity of 6,000.
Jeonju City selected a design proposal under the theme "On (蘊) Gyeong (景)" through a design competition for the new Jeonju Indoor Gymnasium and plans to complete the detailed design within this month.
Afterward, full-scale construction will begin in May, aiming for completion in December next year.
Jeonju City expects the new indoor gymnasium to be the only indoor gymnasium in the Jeonbuk region capable of hosting various domestic and international sports events such as basketball, volleyball, handball, badminton, and gymnastics, providing citizens with opportunities to enjoy sports and revitalizing the local economy through attracting various domestic and international sports competitions.
In this regard, Jeonju Mayor Kim Seung-su visited the site of the indoor gymnasium construction on the same day to check the progress of the project and future plans.
