Hamyang-gun to Apply Same Fare Benefits for Intercity and Rural Buses
From March 28, for Hamyang County residents holding exclusive transportation cards
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, has decided to apply a flat fare of 1,000 KRW, the same as the rural bus fare, for intercity buses passing through Inwol, an intercity section. The policy aims to expand transportation welfare for residents in underserved areas.
Since 2019, Hamyang-gun has applied a flat fare of 1,000 KRW (800 KRW for youth, 500 KRW for children) on all rural bus routes within the county. However, routes passing through Inwol-myeon, Namwon-si, Jeonbuk Province, such as the "Hamyang?Inwol?Macheon" and "Hamyang?Maechi?Inwol" lines, were classified as intercity (outside the jurisdiction) sections and were not eligible for the 1,000 KRW flat fare.
Residents and students using intercity bus routes passing through Inwol, especially those living in Macheon-myeon and Maechi village in Baekjeon-myeon, did not receive the benefit of the 1,000 KRW flat fare and had to pay regular intercity bus fares. Depending on the route, they paid between 500 KRW and 3,800 KRW more for transportation.
To provide convenience in public transportation use and expand transportation welfare, the county began developing a system in November last year to apply the flat fare regardless of intercity sections on intercity bus routes traveling to and from Hamyang-gun.
Starting March 28, only holders of the Hamyang-gun resident exclusive transportation card will be able to receive the 1,000 KRW flat fare (800 KRW for youth, 500 KRW for children) benefit on intercity bus routes traveling to and from Hamyang-gun.
To obtain the Hamyang-gun resident exclusive transportation card, residents can apply by filling out an application form with their ID at the local eup/myeon office of their registered address starting March 21. Application forms will be available at the eup/myeon offices.
