Yoon Seok-yeol: "People Power Party is a Party of the Wealthy, Democratic Party a Party of Workers? Don't Be Fooled"
"Labor Relations Must Be Resolved Independently According to Law... Government Intervention Only When Illegalities Occur"
Each Member of a Strong Union Writes Comments Functioning as Matador
[Asia Economy Reporters Naju-seok and Kang Ju-hee] Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, claimed on the 5th, "People Power Party is a party for the wealthy, and the Democratic Party of Korea deceives people by pretending to be a party for workers. We should not be fooled by this."
On the same day, during a campaign rally in Jecheon, Chungbuk, Yoon said, "I understand that there are about 25 million wage workers in our country," and raised his voice, "Can a regime that only protects workers under militant unions, which make up only 4% of all workers, and only looks after their interests, be called a regime for all workers?"
He continued, "Conflicts and clashes of interest are inevitable," and argued, "It is the government's role to balance these fairly according to laws and principles." He stated, "The state should not arbitrarily intervene in disputes between employers and workers, but rather establish fair and equitable laws and let them resolve issues among themselves according to the law, with the state intervening only when illegal acts occur."
Yoon also claimed that unions are the core support base of candidate Lee. He said, "By joining hands with about one million militant union members, who play a very central role in support," and argued, "Having a core support base that is small in number but supports with their lives is much more advantageous than having 10 or 20 million supporters." He added, "Each member of this core support base posts comments and spreads political smears against opposing politicians, and each one acts as a media outlet."

Yoon criticized the government's COVID-19 response as well. He said, "The government implemented a sloppy quarantine policy by enforcing social distancing, resulting in the highest daily number of confirmed cases worldwide," and stated, "This is not a government." He added, "They don't even provide treatment," and said, "Public healthcare policy has collapsed, and hospitals are helpless." Yoon argued, "If we supplement hospitals with health insurance finances to create a public policy fee system that pays for patient treatment and facilities, even if they remain empty, and use such policies, we can manage with our hospital beds without building public medical schools and hospitals."
