Gwangju 3rd Ring Expressway Construction Plan 'On Track'
Inclusion of the 18.6km Section between Naju Geumcheon and Hwasun in the National Construction Plan
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The construction plan for the Gwangju 3rd Ring Expressway is progressing smoothly.
Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 3rd that the section of the 3rd Ring Expressway has been newly included in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 2nd Expressway Construction Plan, which contains the mid- to long-term investment plan for expressway construction until 2025.
The newly included section in Gwangju in this national construction plan is an 18.6 km segment from Naju Geumcheon to Hwasun, part of Section 4 of the 3rd Ring Expressway, with a total project cost of 1.05 trillion KRW, fully funded by the national government.
With this section included in the government plan, the project will proceed through procedures such as preliminary feasibility study, feasibility study, basic plan, and design.
So far, Gwangju City has been dedicated to establishing a radial 3rd Ring Expressway arterial road network in the metropolitan area to alleviate traffic congestion in downtown Gwangju and improve inter-metropolitan mobility and traffic safety.
The 3rd Ring Expressway's Section 1 between Geumcheon and Bonryang, 15.5 km, and Section 3 between Jangseong and Damyang, 25.3 km, have been completed and are currently in operation.
Section 2 between Bonryang and Jangseong, 9.7 km, is under construction with the goal of completion by the end of this year.
The remaining segment of the final radial ring arterial road network, Section 4 between Damyang Daedeok and Hwasun, 30.8 km, will also be promoted through cooperation with central government agencies to be reflected in future national plans.
