Gochang-gun Selected for 'Fermented Vinegar Industry Platform Establishment Project'

[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk announced on the 3rd that it has been finally selected for the 'Fermented Vinegar Industry Platform Construction Project' hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, securing a project budget of 4 billion KRW.

The core of the project is to build a platform for expanding domestic and international markets through establishing a stable production infrastructure for fermented vinegar, technology development, and commercialization.

From this year until 2023, 2 billion KRW of national funds will be invested over two years. A shared processing facility will be established to enable quality control and commercialization development for vinegar industrialization.

In addition, support will be provided for joint production and manufacturing technology of fermented vinegar so that small-scale farm-based companies can freely use the facilities.

Through this, small-scale vinegar producers are expected to be provided with an environment where they can develop products stably without the burden of facility investment.

Previously, after declaring Gochang as a vinegar culture city in 2019, Gochang-gun was designated as a special zone for Bokbunja and vinegar industry last year, laying the foundation to lead the vinegar industry.

In particular, various fields are being supported, including building vinegar industry infrastructure for fermented vinegar and K-balsamic industrialization, establishing certification standards for functionality and quality uniformity, and operating vinegar academies and visiting vinegar classes to expand the base.

Yoo Gi-sang, the mayor of Gochang-gun, said, "It will establish itself as a space to improve the income of small-scale vinegar farms and pioneer new vinegar markets," adding, "We will strive to preoccupy the vinegar market as a future cultural industry, strengthen our position, and leap forward as one of the world's top four vinegar cities."
