EU Agrees to Exclude 7 Russian Banks Including VTB from SWIFT... Sberbank Not Included
[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] The European Union (EU) has agreed to exclude seven Russian banks from the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT) payment network, Bloomberg reported on the 1st (local time).
According to the report, the EU agreed to exclude seven banks from SWIFT, including state-owned banks VTB Bank, Bank Rossiya, Otkritie, Novikombank, Sovcombank, VEB.RF, and one other.
However, Russia's largest bank, Sberbank, and banks partially owned by the state gas company Gazprom were not included in this list.
Sources conveyed that "some countries, including Poland, are pressuring to include more banks in this sanction." There is also a possibility that the sanction list may change before implementation.
