Agency Alliance: "Wrapping Up Illegal Activities as 'Progressive Measures'... An Insult to the Constitution"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] The CJ Logistics Agency Union on the 28th condemned the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions’ National Courier Workers' Union (Courier Union) for its "illegal occupation without stopping the strike," stating, “Illegal acts must obviously be stopped, but to disguise this as a ‘progressive measure’ is an insult to the Constitution,” and urged, “Do not ignore the suffering of the people and immediately stop the strike.”
They also expressed regret toward the Euljiro Committee, which proposed additional social dialogue to find an exit for the Courier Union despite it being a labor-management issue.
In a press release that day, the Agency Union stated, "We regret the Courier Union’s behavior of pressuring the Agency Union and the original contractor by using the Democratic Party of Korea after failing to achieve demands through the parties involved, and once again involving the original contractor," adding, "Seeing the act of involving the original contractor again, we cannot help but doubt the sincerity of the previous dialogue."
Regarding the Overwork Death Countermeasures Committee and the Public Action Committee, they said, “The role of the Overwork Death Countermeasures Committee ended through two rounds of social agreements, yet they are showing excessive involvement, and some civic groups are gathering to pressure courier operators and agencies at the negotiation table.”
The Agency Union also pointed out, “The Courier Union’s illegal occupation of CJ Logistics headquarters and the collective violence that occurred during the occupation are clear illegal acts,” and criticized, “Stopping illegal acts is a natural duty as citizens of the Republic of Korea, but to package it as if a great decision has been made is to mock the people.”
They continued, “The continuation of the strike means the ongoing suffering of the public, small business owners, and the majority of non-unionized courier drivers,” emphasizing, “This is not the time for the Courier Union to make demands, but the time to offer a public apology for illegal and violent acts, immediately stop the unjustified strike, and repay through service.”
