Geumho High School Wins 'Baegunki National High School Soccer Tournament' Held in Gwangyang
Safe Completion of the Competition with Thorough Quarantine Management
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seonsik] Gwangyang City, Jeonnam announced that the 23rd Baegun-gi National High School Soccer Tournament held at Gwangyang Public Stadium and other venues was safely concluded with the participation of 27 prestigious soccer teams.
The final match held at Gwangyang Public Stadium saw Kumho High School achieve a decisive 4:0 victory against Pocheon Citizen Football Club, proving their top status in national high school soccer and claiming the championship trophy.
Kumho High School advanced to the final by defeating Paju Soccer Center U18 3:0 in the round of 16, Yeongdeok High School 3:1 in the quarterfinals, and Hanyang Technical High School 3:0 in the semifinals.
The runner-up, Pocheon Citizen Football Club U18, showed strong performance by winning against Gwangyang Jecheol High School 3:2 in a penalty shootout in the round of 16, defeating Jeonju Youngsaeng High School 2:1 in the quarterfinals, and beating Pungsaeng High School 1:0 in the semifinals, but unfortunately finished as the runner-up.
Hanyang Technical High School and Gyeonggi Seongnam FC U18 Pungsaeng High School shared third place, and the Fair Play Team Award was given to Gyeonggi Seongnam FC U18 Pungsaeng High School.
Individual awards were given as follows: Most Valuable Player (Kumho High School Kwak Minseok), Excellent Player (Pocheon Citizen Football Club Chae Hyunwoo), Top Scorer (Kumho High School Ahn Hyukju), Best Defender (Kumho High School Kang Donghyun), Best Goalkeeper (Pocheon Citizen Football Club Jeon Woohyun), Best Player (Kumho High School Kang Chansol), Best Coach (Kumho High School Choi Suyong), and Excellent Coach (Pocheon Citizen Football Club Hong Seongho).
Since the tournament was held amid the spread of COVID-19, the city conducted three rounds of self-diagnostic tests to comply with quarantine rules and prevent further spread. To allow players and spectators to watch the games and resolve their curiosities, all matches were broadcast live on the ‘Gwangyang City Hall TV’ YouTube channel.
