For a Safe School Start... Ulsan Office of Education Operates New Semester Adjustment Week in Response to Omicron
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education will operate a new semester adaptation week from the 2nd to the 11th to support a safe March school opening for students and staff.
Starting from the 28th, each school will use a self-diagnosis app to monitor student infection status.
On the opening day, the 2nd, rapid antigen test kits will be distributed to students along with instructions on how to use them.
On the opening day, emphasis will be placed on classroom-level entrance ceremonies, the use of rapid antigen test kits, and education on the updated school-centered quarantine guidelines. Early dismissal is possible on the opening day considering the overall situation of confirmed cases at the school.
Schools providing meals on the opening day may replace the menu with dishes such as rice bowls or ready meals that reduce meal time to prevent infection, or provide alternative foods like bread and juice that students can eat at home if necessary.
The new semester academic schedule will be operated based on key indicators: a 3% rate of new confirmed cases and a 15% rate of school attendance suspension (due to confirmation or quarantine).
If the indicators are below the threshold, normal educational activities will proceed; if exceeded, restrictions on extracurricular activities and partial remote learning at the grade or class level will be decided by the school itself.
In cases where confirmed cases are concentrated regionally or indicators are exceeded, or even if indicators are below thresholds but special circumstances arise, adjustments to academic operations can be made through prior consultation with the Office of Education. Full remote classes due to special situations can also be switched after prior consultation.
In response to the spread of Omicron, the Office of Education operates on-site support teams at the headquarters and education support offices to respond quickly and systematically to school crisis situations.
Elementary after-school care classrooms will operate normally in the first semester, and additional care will be provided during partial attendance or full remote learning periods according to academic operations. Academies and private tutoring centers will also undergo quarantine inspections and receive support for quarantine supplies such as disinfectants.
