Jangseong-gun, Jeonnam Establishes Foundation to Continue Food Plan Success

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jo Hangyu] Jangseong-gun, Jeonnam, has taken the first step in establishing a foundation corporation to take charge of the integrated management of its flagship project, the ‘Jangseong-type Food Plan.’

On the 25th, Jangseong-gun held the inaugural general meeting of the founding members and the inaugural board meeting of the Jangseong Food Integrated Support Center.

The Food Plan is a comprehensive food strategy that systematically plans the entire process of production, distribution, and consumption of local agricultural products. Its goal is to provide consumers with fresh and safe food while guaranteeing stable income for participating farmers.

Jangseong-gun is gaining attention for promoting the ‘Jangseong-type Food Plan,’ the first of its kind nationwide, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, NongHyup, and the military. Farmers focus on producing high-quality agricultural products, while the administration is responsible for distribution.

The Jangseong Food Integrated Support Center, which held the general meeting this time, is a public-interest integrated organization overseeing the entire Jangseong-type Food Plan, including the operation of local food direct stores and public meal service centers.

In December last year, Jangseong-gun established the institutional foundation by enacting the ‘Ordinance on the Establishment and Operation of the Jangseong Food Integrated Support Center.’

Going forward, administrative procedures such as applying for establishment approval, registration, designation and announcement of investment and contribution institutions will be carried out sequentially. The foundation’s launch date is planned to coincide with the opening of the Gwangju Area Jangseong Local Food Direct Store scheduled for May this year.
