View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] A supermom with three children is working on a maritime police patrol vessel performing flawless maritime security duties such as cracking down on illegal fishing by foreign vessels and conducting maritime rescue operations in the West Sea, drawing attention.
The protagonist is Lieutenant Lee Jeonghwa (47, female) of the Mokpo Maritime Police Station patrol vessel 3009.
Lieutenant Lee is a passionate parent of three children attending elementary, middle, and high school, and a veteran maritime police officer marking her 22nd year of service this year.
Since 2019, Lieutenant Lee has been serving as a third-year patrol vessel crew member, carrying out maritime security missions with about 40 colleagues in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), protecting maritime sovereignty, responding to various maritime incidents and accidents, and blocking and apprehending international crimes such as smuggling and illegal immigration.
Working on a patrol vessel facing fierce waves day and night was never easy for Lieutenant Lee from the start.
Maritime duty on a patrol vessel requires strong physical endurance and high concentration as rapid response to various situations is demanded 24 hours a day.
Especially as a mother of three, Lieutenant Lee had great worries and longing for her children during the not-so-short 7 nights and 8 days deployment schedule, but her three children, who have grown up maturely, have now become a strong support team for their supermom.
Lieutenant Lee Jeonghwa smiled and said, “The encouragement from my three children, who see me as a cool maritime police mom protecting the sea, is a powerful driving force for the tough maritime duty,” adding, “I will become a supermom maritime police officer who safely protects both the maritime sovereignty of the West Sea and my family.”
