Yoon: "If You Agree with Liberal Democracy and Market Economy, We Will All Go Together"... 317 Supporters Including Former Chairmen
"I Will Not Compromise at All, Like Enforcing Criminal Law"
Emphasizing Cooperation and National Unity... Also Mentioning Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, emphasized 'national unity' by stating, "If you agree with the principles of liberal democracy and market economy, I will unite and move forward together regardless of political faction, class, or region," during meetings with former National Assembly Speakers and members who support him. He also criticized the current Democratic Party and promised to become a 'listening politician' and an 'honest president.'
On the 24th, Yoon attended a support resolution meeting held at the National Assembly Library with former ruling and opposition National Assembly Speakers and members. He said, "I deeply thank the senior politicians who have upheld the spirit of the market economy and the Constitution under any circumstances," and added, "I am truly overwhelmed by the generous support and encouragement shown to me, a political newcomer, in the spirit of protecting this liberal democratic constitutional principle regardless of political faction."
He continued, "I will cherish the intentions of our senior politicians and members, devote myself to them, and ensure that the national identity, liberal democracy, and market economy of this country are firmly protected," emphasizing his vision.
He stated, "I do not see this election as a confrontation between political factions or between the People Power Party and the Democratic Party," and added, "If that were the case, I, who have spent my life enforcing criminal law, would have no reason to stand here." He also said, "Just as I have enforced criminal law, I will not make any compromises."
Yoon also criticized the Democratic Party. He said, "What about the current Democratic Party? I believe the DNA of former Presidents Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun still flows within the Democratic Party," but pointed out, "However, the main actors constituting the current Democratic Party and presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung are not the Democratic Party with its splendid and brilliant traditions of the past."
He further stated, "Through this presidential election, it is a confrontation between irrational, unreasonable, anti-constitutional forces and constitutional protection forces. We must drive them out and achieve excellent cooperation, compromise, and national unity with those who agree with the Constitution of the Republic of Korea."
He added, "I will practice 'politics that asks, listens, and hears,' not arrogance and stubbornness, by consulting seniors and experts," and declared, "I will become an honest president, not an immoral politician who says one thing yesterday, another today, and something different tomorrow."
