Gwangyang-si Intensifies Nighttime Parking Crackdown on Commercial Vehicles
Intensive Monitoring and Enforcement of Overnight Parking Outside Garages Throughout March
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Gwangyang City in Jeonnam announced that it will conduct intensive guidance and crackdowns throughout March on illegal overnight parking of commercial vehicles such as freight trucks and charter buses outside of their garages, coinciding with the start of the school term and the holiday season.
Commercial vehicles parked overnight in residential areas and around schools cause traffic congestion, trigger traffic accidents, and create noise pollution.
The city has regularly enforced guidance and crackdowns on illegal overnight parking of commercial vehicles in high-risk traffic accident areas, complaint-prone areas, residential backstreets, and around schools.
The focus of the crackdown is to eradicate illegal overnight parking of commercial vehicles. The targets are commercial vehicles parked illegally overnight for more than one hour between midnight and 4 a.m. on apartment complex roads, residential backstreets, and around schools.
Commercial vehicles caught during the overnight parking crackdown will face administrative penalties such as a 3 to 5-day suspension of operation or fines ranging from 100,000 to 300,000 KRW, according to the 「Freight Vehicle Transport Business Act」 and the 「Passenger Vehicle Transport Business Act」.
Heo Jeong-ryang, head of the Transportation Division, stated, “We will continue to provide guidance and enforce crackdowns on illegal overnight parking of commercial vehicles that obstruct traffic flow and cause major traffic accidents, to establish a safe traffic order.”
He added, “We ask commercial vehicle operators to use their authorized registered garages and contribute to the establishment of a safe and sound traffic culture.”
