Korea Specialty Contractors Association Holds Emergency Meeting to Resolve Conflicts at Major Structural Subcontracting Sites
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Seoyul] The Korea Specialty Contractors Association will hold an emergency meeting to ease the escalating conflicts over subcontract payment increases between primary and secondary contractors at major nationwide structural (rebar and concrete) subcontracting sites.
On the 23rd, the Korea Specialty Contractors Association announced that it will hold an emergency win-win meeting at 3 p.m. on the 25th at the Specialty Construction Hall in Shindaebang-dong, Dongjak-gu, Seoul. Since last year, rebar and concrete specialty construction companies facing construction cost shortages due to soaring material prices and labor costs have been showing collective action movements such as site shutdowns.
Earlier, the rebar and concrete specialty construction industry reportedly sent official letters under the name of the five regional federations demanding an increase in construction payments and stating that if no commitment to increase is made by the 1st of next month, they will take collective action. These letters were sent to the top 100 general construction companies.
The association explained that it arranged the dialogue forum out of concern that if structural sites nationwide stop, the problem could spread throughout the construction industry. Department heads in charge of outsourcing from the relevant general construction companies are also expected to attend the meeting.
