Daehan Electric Wire to Build Large-Scale Submarine Cable Production Plant in Dangjin, Chungnam
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyeyoung] On the 22nd, Daehan Electric Wire announced that it has finalized the Asan National Industrial Complex Gode District in Dangjin-si, Chungnam Province as the site for its new submarine cable factory.
Daehan Electric Wire plans to build a large-scale seaside (coastal) factory capable of producing submarine cables on the rear site adjacent to Gode Pier. To this end, it signed an agreement with KG GNS, the landowner, regarding land sale and project promotion.
Dangjin is home to Daehan Electric Wire's main production facility, the Dangjin Plant, and has been considered the top candidate site because the new factory can be constructed and managed while utilizing the human and material infrastructure of the existing plant.
In particular, the Gode District is about a 10-minute drive from the Dangjin Plant, offering good accessibility, and it is adjacent to Gode Pier, which is advantageous. Since submarine cables are difficult to transport by land and are loaded onto laying vessels immediately after production, the closer the distance to the pier, the better.
Submarine cables for offshore wind power are divided into internal networks connecting wind turbines and offshore substations, and external networks connecting offshore substations and onshore substations.
Through this investment, Daehan Electric Wire plans to establish factory facilities capable of producing 66kV internal networks and 154kV external networks by 2023. Subsequently, it plans to gradually expand its product lineup to include 345kV external networks and high-voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine cables.
