Hyundai Engineering Manages Solar Power Quality Using Drones
First Application of Thermal Imaging Drone in Saemangeum
Hyundai Engineering is applying advanced construction drone technology to quality control of solar power modules.
According to the company on the 15th, Hyundai Engineering first applied thermal imaging camera drones for quality control in the Saemangeum Onshore Solar Power Zone 1 project, which was completed last year. The Saemangeum onshore solar power project is the largest onshore solar power project in Korea, with a total capacity of 99MW built on a 340,000-pyeong site in Saemangeum.
Hyundai Engineering is conducting defect module inspections and quality control using smart construction technology with thermal imaging camera drones on a total of 220,000 solar power modules installed at the Saemangeum Onshore Solar Power Zone 1 site, which is approximately 158 times the size of a soccer field.
The thermal imaging camera drone technology uses drones equipped with thermal imaging cameras to capture images of solar power modules and analyze thermal imaging patterns, enabling rapid identification of modules suspected of malfunction. In particular, it is explained that this technology can reduce inspection time by more than 90% compared to manual inspection of solar power modules, allowing for fast and accurate quality control.
