Guro Stalking Murder Suspect Commits Crime Two Days After Arrest Warrant Rejected (Update)
Arrested on the Afternoon of the 11th for Obstruction of Business After Visiting Victims
Police Requested Arrest Warrant, Prosecutors Dismissed... Ultimately a Tragedy
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A woman in her 40s who was receiving police crime victim safety measures (personal protection) was stabbed to death by a suspect presumed to be subject to a restraining order.
It was confirmed that the suspect had been engaging in stalking crimes, including threatening the victim three days prior to the incident.
On the 15th, the Guro Police Station in Seoul announced that they are tracking a suspect in his 50s, Mr. A, who killed a woman in her 40s under personal protection and fled.
At around 10:13 PM on the 14th, Mr. A entered a pub in Guro-gu where the female victim was drinking with another man, killed the victim, and also wielded a weapon against the man who was with her. Mr. A fled the scene immediately after the crime.
The victim was transported to the hospital but died, and the male victim was also injured and taken to the hospital for treatment.
The report was made at around 10:11 PM via the smartwatch issued to the female victim, and the police arrived at the scene at around 10:15 PM.
It was reported that Mr. A was arrested and investigated by the police for disturbing business after causing a disturbance at the victim’s store around 5 PM on the 11th. On the same day, the victim had filed a complaint with the Yangcheon Police Station in Seoul against Mr. A for assault and special threats, which he apparently resented.
After receiving the victim’s report and arresting Mr. A at the scene, the police investigated additional crimes such as stalking and rape, and applied for an arrest warrant on the morning of the 12th, but it was dismissed by the prosecution.
Accordingly, while the police warned the victim and decided on emergency measures (Types 1 and 2) for restraining under the Stalking Act, Mr. A committed the crime again while supplementary investigations for reapplying the arrest warrant were underway.
