Creating Green Smart Cities... Busan City Launches 'Noksan Smart Green Industrial Complex Project Team'
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Busan City, together with the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, will launch the ‘Busan Noksan Smart Green Industrial Complex Project Group’ on the 16th and begin full-scale operations.
The city established the project group to transform the Noksan National Industrial Complex into a Smart Green Industrial Complex.
The Smart Green Industrial Complex is a government-led Korean New Deal flagship project aimed at converting aging regional industrial complexes into smart, eco-friendly manufacturing spaces.
Starting with the Changwon, Banwol, and Siwha complexes in 2019, seven industrial complexes nationwide, including Busan’s Noksan Industrial Complex, have been designated as Smart Green Industrial Complexes.
The Noksan National Industrial Complex, the only national industrial complex in Busan playing a pivotal role in the regional economy and industrial logistics, was simultaneously selected as a base complex for the Industrial Complex Renovation and as a Smart Green Industrial Complex in March last year.
The Noksan Smart Green Industrial Complex development project promoted by the city aims for industrial complex manufacturing innovation, smart green transformation, and a youth-friendly industrial complex.
The project includes plans to transform the complex into a ‘Digital Leading Complex’ through smartization, a ‘Smart Green Logistics Complex’ by improving industrial complex infrastructure, and a ‘Youth-Friendly Talent Development Complex’ by strengthening the job ecosystem.
From this year through 2026, Busan City plans to implement 15 projects totaling KRW 408.2 billion, including nine digital transformation projects such as establishing a smart industrial complex manufacturing innovation base, building and advancing smart factories, and expanding smart convenience facilities; three energy self-sufficiency projects including building energy self-sufficient infrastructure and a smart energy platform; and three eco-friendly foundation projects such as the Smart Garden Bowl project and the Industrial Complex Environmental Improvement Fund project.
The city has set three major performance goals for the Noksan National Industrial Complex by 2026: KRW 806.6 billion in production inducement effect, KRW 267.9 billion in added value inducement effect, and 5,552 jobs created.
Additionally, Busan City will make every effort to discover new projects and secure national funding for carbon-neutral industrial complex development through an organic cooperative system with regional innovation institutions.
The Industrial Complex Renovation project has also been finalized with a total of 32 projects amounting to KRW 1.0691 trillion.
Busan City plans to actively promote projects starting this year to establish the Noksan National Industrial Complex as a base complex, the Sasang Industrial Area and Sinpyeong Jangnim Industrial Complex as connected complexes, and the Jisa area as a connected region, into a smart logistics-linked smart green mobility core materials, parts, and equipment (SoBuJang) hub complex.
