Korea Investment Management Unifies Active and Passive ETF Brands to Strengthen Brand Power
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Korea Investment Trust Management, which operates the largest electric vehicle (EV) public offering fund in Korea, is launching an active exchange-traded fund (ETF) that focuses on the EV and autonomous driving industries in the United States and China. This is the first time an ETF investing actively in overseas EV and autonomous driving themes has been introduced in Korea.
Korea Investment Trust Management plans to list the ‘KINDEX G2 Electric Vehicle & Autonomous Driving Active ETF’ on the Korea Stock Exchange on the 15th. This product invests in stocks related to EVs, hydrogen vehicles, autonomous driving, and car-sharing in the U.S. and China. The benchmark index (BM) is the ‘FactSet US-China Electric & Autonomous Vehicle Index,’ calculated by global financial information provider FactSet. This index consists of about 50 companies related to EVs, hydrogen vehicles, autonomous driving, and car-sharing listed on exchanges in the U.S. and China.
Korea Investment Trust Management plans to maximize investment performance by focusing on the U.S. and China, which have core technologies in the related industries and the world’s largest consumer markets. Representative EV stocks in the U.S. and China include Tesla, BYD, and NIO. Hydrogen vehicle stocks include Bloom Energy, FuelCell Energy, and CIMIC Enric. In the autonomous driving theme, Nvidia, Alphabet (Google), and Baidu stand out, while Uber, Didi Chuxing, and Lyft are notable companies in the car-sharing theme.
The management of the ‘KINDEX G2 Electric Vehicle & Autonomous Driving Active ETF’ will be led by Hwang Woo-taek, head of the Multi-Strategy Division at Korea Investment Trust Management, who also manages the ‘Korea Investment Global Electric Vehicle & Battery Fund,’ a leading domestic EV fund with assets of 1.67 trillion KRW. Since establishing the ‘Korea Investment Global Electric Vehicle & Battery Fund’ in October 2017, Korea Investment Trust Management has grown this fund into a large-scale fund exceeding 1 trillion KRW, accumulating investment know-how in the industry.
The ‘KINDEX G2 Electric Vehicle & Autonomous Driving Active ETF’ is exposed to currency fluctuations, meaning exchange rate changes are reflected in the ETF’s net asset value. The annual total expense ratio is 0.29%, the lowest among actively managed overseas stock ETFs listed domestically.
