On the 9th, Gyeongnam Province held a final research planning report meeting for new material and component industry businesses at the provincial government conference room, attended by about 20 industry-academia-research officials including the Korea Institute of Materials Science, Korea Aerospace Industries, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, SeAH Changwon Integrated Special Steel, Gyeongnam Technopark, and Inje University.
At the meeting, out of 56 projects submitted by local companies, universities, and research institutes, three final projects were selected for research planning this year.
The newly selected projects are the establishment of a Hydrogen Industry Material and Component Certification Support Center, a Space Demonstration Center for the localization development of core space materials and components, and the establishment of a Reliability Evaluation Center for High-Temperature Parts for Hydrogen Gas Turbines.
The Hydrogen Industry Material and Component Certification Support Center project will invest 24 billion KRW over five years to utilize the industrial and economic structural transformation of the hydrogen economy as a new driving force for the development of the Gyeongnam region.
It plans to support the fostering of innovative hydrogen industry companies through hydrogen industry material and component testing and evaluation, technology development, and engineering technical support.
The Space Demonstration Center project for the localization development of core space materials and components will invest 25.5 billion KRW over four years to establish a commercial space environment demonstration center.
It aims to localize core space materials and components that are highly dependent on overseas sources, support new space industrial satellite demonstration, and promote the training of space specialists linked with industry, academia, and research.
The Reliability Evaluation Center for High-Temperature Parts for Hydrogen Gas Turbines project will invest 22.9 billion KRW over four years to establish a reliability evaluation for hydrogen gas turbine combustion environments, demonstration infrastructure, and a demand-supply chain collaboration platform.
With no domestic testing and evaluation infrastructure for hydrogen gas turbines, this project aims to secure a future new industry market, strengthen national competitiveness, and establish a market entry foundation for small and medium-sized enterprises related to hydrogen gas turbines. Gyeongnam Province plans to coordinate with central government ministries to include the new projects in next year’s national projects.

Kim Young-sam, Director of the Industrial Innovation Bureau of Gyeongnam Province, said, “We will actively respond to industrial changes by discovering material and component projects reflecting government policies such as carbon neutrality and the new space era, as well as global market changes, and support the sustainable growth of local companies. We will do our best to ensure that these new projects are reflected in national projects linked to government material and component policies.”
