According to the quarantine authorities and local governments including Seoul City, from midnight to 6 p.m. on that day, the nationwide COVID-19 cases totaled 28,880. Compared to 23,351 cases during the same time frame the previous day, this is 5,529 more, and more than double the 11,675 cases reported during the same time frame a week earlier on the 1st of this month.
New cases were 14,763 (51.1%) in the metropolitan area and 14,117 (48.9%) in non-metropolitan areas. By city and province, the numbers were Gyeonggi 6,512, Seoul 5,372, Incheon 2,879, Daegu 2,394, Gyeongbuk 1,862, Busan 1,770, Gwangju 1,420, Chungnam 1,287, Daejeon 1,113, Jeonbuk 960, Chungbuk 891, Gangwon 816, Ulsan 412, Jeonnam 387, Jeju 333, Sejong 274, Gyeongnam 198, etc.

Since there is still time until midnight when the tally closes, the number of new cases announced as of 0 a.m. on the 9th is expected to be higher than this. The new cases as of midnight on that day were 36,719, marking the fourth consecutive day with over 30,000 cases.
