"Measures to Strengthen Competitiveness of Small and Medium Distributors"
Emphasizing the Need to Establish Legal Framework for Promoting Small and Medium Distribution Industry
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] The Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business held a policy forum on the 8th at the National Assembly Members' Office Building together with Assemblyman Jeong Tae-ho of the Democratic Party of Korea to enact the "Act on the Promotion of Small and Medium Distribution Enterprises."
This forum was organized to discuss policy directions that can support the adaptation of small and medium distribution businesses and provide a growth foundation in response to changes in the distribution environment and consumer trends centered on non-face-to-face and online channels.
Professor Lee Jeong-hee of Chung-Ang University, who gave the keynote presentation, addressed institutional improvement measures to support the adaptation and growth of small and medium distribution enterprises in the digital age.
Professor Lee pointed out that policies related to small and medium distribution have mainly focused on offline channels so far, and that the current Distribution Industry Development Act concentrates on regulations such as entry and business restrictions on large-scale distribution businesses, which do not align with tailored support for small and medium distribution enterprises.
She emphasized, "Effective policy support is needed to strengthen competitiveness through the protection and promotion of small and medium distribution and to respond to market changes centered on online channels."
She proposed policy tasks such as efficient smartization of small and medium distribution, win-win cooperation with platforms, customized digitalization support, and the reorganization of small and medium distribution policy governance.
The discussion, chaired by Professor Lim Chae-woon of Sogang University, presented various opinions on the need to establish a legal system for the growth of online distribution and the promotion of small and medium distribution businesses in the transition to the non-face-to-face era.
Kim Ki-moon, Chairman of the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business, stated, "Policy support must back small and medium distribution businesses so that they can adapt to the platform era that matches changes in the industrial environment and consumer trends and create new jobs."
