KT Obtains 'Green Technology Certification' for AI Building Operator Technology
Optimal Control Solution for Building Energy Facilities
"Plans for Use in Real Estate and Smart Buildings"
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] KT announced on the 6th that its building energy facility optimal control solution, ‘AI Building Operator,’ has become the first in Korea to receive green technology certification in the field of cloud-based remote energy consumption monitoring and optimization technology.
Green technology certification is a government-certified system that recognizes technologies minimizing greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions through energy and resource savings and efficiency improvements. The Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology reviews the certification, having been delegated evaluation authority by nine government ministries, including the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Science and ICT, and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.
KT’s AI Building Operator, which received green technology certification this time, is a building energy facility optimal control technology that integrates KT’s intelligent control algorithm (Robo Operator) into building automation systems to reduce energy consumption.
Typical building automation systems provide various control functions, but due to a lack of training and on-site experts, they have not been fully utilized and have operated long-term based only on initial system settings. However, by applying the AI Building Operator, AI automatic control according to internal and external temperature changes becomes possible. For example, KT applied the AI Building Operator to a total of 10 locations last year, including eight company buildings such as Gwanghwamun East Building and two external buildings such as Signa Tower in Jongno-gu, Seoul, achieving an average energy consumption reduction of 10-15% compared to before.
Until now, building energy efficiency improvements mostly involved installing or replacing high-efficiency energy equipment and facilities, but the AI Building Operator can be utilized with cloud integration without significant investment in already installed facilities. It can be applied not only to new buildings but also to existing ones.

Kim Bong-gi, head of the Convergence Research Institute at KT Convergence Technology Institute, said, “We plan to utilize the AI Building Operator solution, which has obtained green technology certification this time, in KT’s various real estate and smart building businesses,” adding, “We will contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through energy savings for national carbon neutrality policies and corporate ESG management.”
