Jeongeup-si Secures 4.5 Billion Won in Special Grants... Momentum for Current Projects
[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City, Jeollabuk-do (Mayor Yoo Jinseop) announced on the 30th that it secured a total of 4.5 billion KRW in special grants from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety for 15 projects this year.
This is the largest amount since the 7th local government administration, increasing by about 2.5 billion KRW, more than double compared to last year.
Special grants are funds provided by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to cover financial demands that arise unexpectedly due to special financial needs or various disasters, in accordance with their intended use and purpose.
By sector, in the first half of the year, 1 billion KRW was allocated for the construction of the entrance and exit roads of National Road No. 1, 400 million KRW for supporting region-led economic revitalization, 300 million KRW for repairs of Naejang Churyeong Bridge, and projects to facilitate vaccine access for seniors, totaling 2.045 billion KRW.
In the second half, 600 million KRW was secured for repairs of Hamo Bridge, 500 million KRW for the construction of entrance and exit roads at Yongho Intersection on National Road No. 1, 500 million KRW for road widening and paving around Yuchang Apartments, and 400 million KRW for disaster early warning and alert facility installation projects, totaling 2.044 billion KRW.
Additionally, 350 million KRW was secured for installing security CCTV in safety-vulnerable areas, enabling citizens to live safer lives.
Along with this, Jeongeup City was selected as an excellent local government in the ‘expenditure reduction and public enterprise evaluation’ and received a commendation from the Minister of the Interior and Safety, securing an additional 138 million KRW as an incentive.
Despite the need to focus all efforts on responding to COVID-19 in 2021, the city has prepared a meticulous response strategy from discovering local issues to securing funds.
As a result, Jeongeup City’s budget, which was 740 billion KRW in 2018, will enter the first era of 1 trillion KRW next year with a 41.2% increase by securing maximum resources such as national and provincial subsidies and grants.
A city official said, “Securing 4.5 billion KRW in special grants this year is a result recognized for the active administrative efforts of the local National Assembly member, Jeongeup Mayor, and all Jeongeup city officials to improve citizens’ safety and quality of life despite difficult conditions. We will do our best to secure even more special grants next year.”
