Woowa Brothers, the operator of Baedal Minjok, announced on the 28th that they received the highest award, the Minister of Science and ICT Award, at the '2021 HDCON Hacking Defense Competition' hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and organized by the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) and the Korea Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Center.
The Woowa Brothers Infrastructure Security Team formed a team of four members (Kang Jeong-jin, Kwon Hyun-jun, Song Su-ho, Lee Joo-ho) and participated in the hacking defense competition on the 7th in the category of 'Cloud Security Architecture Design and Operation Plan.' The team name was set as 'kk' team, reflecting Baemin's unique wit.
Woowa Brothers is one of the representative domestic companies using Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud. The kk team participated in the competition with the intention of reviewing their past projects conducted in the AWS cloud environment and researching security tasks more deeply and meticulously. The team proposed eight feasible ideas based on the know-how accumulated from the perspective of companies adopting cloud environments.
The kk team combined new ideas with their know-how on ▲security strategy ▲security architecture ▲security operations built using AWS cloud services and on-premise data. This proposal received high praise from the judges for being 'practically and realistically implementable,' earning them the Minister's Award.
The HDCON hacking defense competition is characterized by presenting problems based on real issues and concerns experienced in actual corporate environments, unlike typical attack-focused hacking competitions. The competition proceeds with participants proposing solutions to the given problems, and evaluations are made considering the technical and cost feasibility of the proposed ideas.
