Hana Bank Launches Nationwide Energy Saving Project with Korea Electric Power Corporation
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Hana Bank announced on the 27th that it will implement the 'Energy Challenge' service, the first in the domestic financial sector to practice carbon neutrality and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management through collaboration with energy companies.
The 'Energy Challenge' service was established following the 'Joint Promotion of Carbon Neutrality Based on ESG Financial Platform' business agreement signed between Hana Bank and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) in July. The 'Energy Challenge' service is available on Hana Bank's smartphone banking flagship app, 『Hana One Q』. Users can perform various energy-saving missions such as unplugging home appliances, turning off lights, and maintaining appropriate refrigerator capacity. The energy money earned from the saved electricity can be received as cash through the 『Hana One Q』 app from KEPCO. Additionally, users can compare their monthly electricity usage with the previous year's and the surrounding average usage, and check their personal energy-saving ranking among all service users, allowing them to monitor their energy-saving status at a glance.
Along with the service launch, Hana Bank introduced the ‘Energy Challenge Savings Account,’ which offers preferential interest rates when users set and achieve electricity-saving goals. Users can receive a monthly preferential interest rate of 0.1% up to a maximum of 0.5% annually for completing energy-saving missions, and up to 4.1% annually, including a maximum 2.5% preferential interest rate based on the reduction rate compared to the same period last year.
To encourage nationwide participation in electricity saving, Hana Bank is also conducting an event where 1,000 participants in the 'Energy Challenge' will be selected by lottery to receive mugs. Furthermore, for each subscriber to the ‘Energy Challenge Savings Account,’ a donation of 1,000 KRW will be accumulated, with up to 50 million KRW to be used for providing high-efficiency heating products to single-mother households as part of a sharing campaign.
