What Are the Top 10 Gyeonggi-do Fire Department News Stories That Heated Up 2021?
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The top news item selected by Gyeonggi-do firefighters as the 10 major news stories of the year was "Firefighters who responded even to reports where only the receiver was tapped."
The Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced on the 26th that it conducted a survey over six days from the 8th to the 13th among 7,020 firefighters in the province to select the "2021 Gyeonggi-do Fire 10 Major News."
The survey was conducted by having participating staff choose three out of 20 major news items of the year, selecting the top 10 from first to tenth place.
The first place was awarded to "Firefighters who responded even to reports where only the receiver was tapped," selected by 2,862 people. In April, the calm response of Fire Captain Kim Hyun-geun of the Headquarters Disaster Comprehensive Command Center, who did not overlook the tapping sound on the receiver from a caller who could not speak due to an underlying illness, became an example to many staff. This case also won the grand prize at the 2nd Situation Management Best Practice Competition hosted by the National Fire Agency last month.
The second place was the funeral ceremonies of the late Fire Lieutenant Kim Dong-sik, the rescue team leader of Gwangju Fire Station who died in the line of duty during firefighting and rescue at the Icheon logistics center fire in June, and the late Fire Sergeant Shin Jin-gyo, who died unexpectedly during a dispatch call in April.
Following these were the search for missing persons that continued for about ten days across the province earlier this year, strict response under the zero-tolerance principle for assault on firefighters, and changes in Gyeonggi-do firefighting one year after the transition to national status.
Other news items in the top 10 included ▲ Seeking solutions to the biggest challenge in 119 ambulance services, "hospital selection" ▲ The first female fire station chief in Gyeonggi-do - Han Seon appointed as Siheung Fire Station Chief ▲ Decrease in fire, rescue, and ambulance dispatches in 2020 compared to the previous year ▲ Increasing electrical fires... need for investment in firefighting from the electricity fund ▲ Nationwide first patented hands-free firefighting helmet development.
Hong Jang-pyo, head of the Life Safety Division at the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters, said, "Throughout this year, Gyeonggi-do Fire has worked hard to protect the lives and property of residents at disaster sites big and small and implemented various safety policies. We will do our best to make Gyeonggi-do a safe and happy place in 2022 as well."
