Suncheon City Extends '50% Discount on Agricultural Machinery Rental Fees' Until the End of June Next Year
Alleviating Economic Burden on Farmers and Addressing Labor Shortages Due to COVID-19
[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 24th that it will extend the period of agricultural machinery rental fee reductions, which had been implemented since April last year to alleviate the economic burden on farmers struggling due to COVID-19 and to address the shortage of rural labor, until the end of June next year.
The rental fee reduction applies to farmers cultivating farmland located within Suncheon City and farmers coming from other regions. The reduction covers all models of 276 units across 51 types at two rental centers: Seungju Agricultural Machinery Rental Center and Southern Rental Center.
Comparing the agricultural machinery rental fee reduction performance over the past three years in Suncheon City, before the project implementation (April to November 2019), there were 20,582 rental households and 2,058 rental cases, whereas this year, the numbers increased to 20,360 households and 2,357 rental cases.
Along with the rental fee reductions, the city is promoting various projects to provide convenience in the use of agricultural machinery, such as on-site technical support for farmers and returnees to farming and rural areas, and agricultural machinery safety education, receiving great responses from users.

A city official stated, “We will continue to make various efforts to reduce the burden of purchasing agricultural machinery for farms that find it difficult to buy machinery and to resolve the shortage of rural labor.”
