Coupang Runs Rocket Delivery with 'Eco-Friendly Hydrogen Cargo Trucks'
Pilot Operation of 'Eco-friendly Hydrogen Vehicles' in Incheon Region Starting Next Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Coupang announced on the 23rd that it will introduce and pilot operate 'eco-friendly hydrogen cargo trucks (11t)' for transportation between delivery facilities for Rocket Delivery starting from the new year. This is part of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) activities, aiming to establish global standards for eco-friendly e-commerce and actively realize eco-friendly values.
On the same day, Coupang participated in the 'Hydrogen Cargo Truck Pilot Operation Commemoration Event' held at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, along with the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. Since signing the 'Hydrogen Cargo Truck Pilot Project Promotion Agreement' in May last year, Coupang has continuously collaborated with relevant government ministries to actively seek ways to introduce eco-friendly vehicles into delivery services closely connected to daily life.
Under this pilot project, Coupang plans to introduce the eco-friendly hydrogen cargo truck 'Xcient' to delivery sites mainly in the Incheon area through its logistics subsidiary, Coupang Logistics Service. The Xcient, mass-produced by Hyundai Motor Company, is a large hydrogen cargo truck that delivers performance similar to existing diesel trucks while emitting no carbon dioxide during operation. Coupang and Coupang Logistics Service will secure data to enhance the applicability of hydrogen cargo trucks in logistics sites through the pilot operation results and accumulate know-how in operating eco-friendly vehicles.
