CJ Logistics Deploys Large Hydrogen Fuel Cell Trucks in Logistics Sites... Leading Eco-Friendly Management
[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] CJ Logistics announced on the 23rd that it attended the 'Hydrogen Cargo Vehicle Pilot Operation Commemoration Event' hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport at KINTEX in Ilsan.
CJ Logistics is introducing two 11-ton class hydrogen cargo vehicles to logistics sites. These vehicles are responsible for transporting express cargo arriving through Incheon Airport to a sub-terminal located in Incheon. One vehicle visits the Incheon Airport Express Center, and the other visits the Incheon Customs Express Logistics Center to load express cargo and deliver it to the sub-terminal. The round-trip distance is about 50 km, and charging is done at the hydrogen bus charging station located at Incheon Airport Corporation T2 (located in Unseo-dong, Jung-gu, Incheon). The hydrogen cargo vehicles being introduced this time can travel 570 km on a single charge.
Having already operated 34 units of 1-ton electric delivery vehicles since last year, CJ Logistics is evaluated to have established the foundation for an eco-friendly transportation system with the introduction of the 11-ton class hydrogen cargo vehicles. The 1-ton electric delivery vehicles deliver parcels to customers in areas near delivery terminals, while the 11-ton class hydrogen cargo vehicles perform cargo transportation by loading goods at warehouses and moving them to sub-terminals. In the future, hydrogen cargo vehicles will be deployed on long-distance routes operating between sub-terminals and hub terminals as the supply of hydrogen charging stations expands.
According to data from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, converting one 10-ton large cargo vehicle to an eco-friendly vehicle is equivalent to converting 13 units of 1-ton cargo vehicles. Therefore, the commercialization of these hydrogen cargo vehicles is expected to make a significant contribution to achieving carbon neutrality in the future.
Since May, CJ Logistics has been promoting the conversion of all vehicles it owns or leases externally to electric and hydrogen cargo vehicles through the '2030 Zero-Emission Vehicle Transition 100' initiative. In addition, the company is leading eco-friendly logistics through the introduction of eco-friendly packaging and upcycling projects.
Shin Youngsoo, Head of CJ Logistics Delivery and E-commerce Division, said, “Corporate carbon neutrality is not a choice but a necessity,” adding, “Through participation in this pilot project and expansion of eco-friendly cargo vehicle conversion, we will actively participate in reducing carbon emissions in the transportation sector and leap forward as an innovative technology company that actively practices ESG management.”
