Gangjin-gun Selected as an 'Excellent Local Government' in Local Non-Tax Revenue Management Evaluation

[Gangjin＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 23rd that it was selected as an excellent organization in the analysis and diagnosis evaluation of local non-tax revenue management for local governments nationwide, hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

This evaluation has been conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety since 2015 to increase the collection rate of local non-tax revenue, which is relatively lower compared to the local tax collection rate, by analyzing and evaluating the operational performance of each local government.

In this evaluation, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety categorized 243 local governments nationwide into 13 groups based on population and financial status, and selected 26 institutions by combining quantitative evaluation (70 points) such as collection rates and qualitative evaluation (30 points) such as self-effort within each group.

Gangjin-gun established a non-tax revenue team in 2018 and has systematically guided taxpayers on payment by introducing a telephone civil complaint system. It has also made multifaceted efforts to collect overdue payments, including checking arrears from the stage of selecting recipients for various subsidies.

As a result, Gangjin-gun has won the honor for the third time this year following 2018 and 2019, and was selected as an excellent local government in this evaluation, securing a commendation from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and financial incentives for 2022.

County Governor Lee Seung-ok said, “I thank the residents who have faithfully fulfilled their tax obligations despite the difficult economic situation,” and added, “We will continue to do our best for efficient management of non-tax revenue and sound financial operation.”
