Yoo Dong-gyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, Elected as the 3rd President of the Seoul City Tourism Council

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Yoo Dong-gyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, has been elected as the next chairman of the Seoul Downtown Tourism Council.
The Seoul Downtown Tourism Council (Chairman Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu) announced on the 22nd that Yoo Dong-gyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, was elected as the next chairman at the council's second half regular meeting.
The council, composed of six autonomous districts?Mapo-gu, Seongbuk-gu, Seodaemun-gu, Jongno-gu, Jung-gu, and Yongsan-gu (hereafter referred to as the Downtown 6 Districts)?was established in October 2019 as an administrative council to seek tourism development plans through cooperation and solidarity among local governments.
The council jointly cooperates to achieve ▲sustainable tourism revitalization ▲spread of historical and cultural values ▲activation of lifestyle tourism content ▲improvement of tourism systems ▲and establishment of cooperative tourism governance.
At this second half regular meeting, following Kim Young-jong, Mayor of Jongno-gu, as the first chairman in 2020, and Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, as the second chairman in 2021, Yoo Dong-gyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, was elected as chairman for 2022 to promote the Downtown 6 Districts' tourism cooperation projects next year.
Additionally, to raise awareness of the Downtown 6 Districts as the center of Seoul tourism, a promotional video of the Downtown 6 Districts produced under the concept of ‘Hanyang Center’ was viewed, and a project presentation was held to create a virtual exhibition hall within an online platform showcasing major tourist site photos and videos of the Downtown 6 Districts, open to the public.
Subsequently, discussions were held on next year’s joint cooperation projects including ▲production of multilingual versions of the Seoul downtown tourism guide map ▲continuous operation of the Downtown 6 Districts tourism promotion platform virtual exhibition hall ▲and development of the Downtown 6 Districts tourism brand (B/I).
Meanwhile, in March, the Downtown 6 Districts published lifestyle tourism spots that can be enjoyed within a day in nearby areas through neighborhood newsletters to create tourism opportunities, and in the second half of the year, completed production of beautiful tourist spots from each district in the form of a 2022 calendar photo to be used for next year’s tourism promotion.

Yoo Dong-gyun, who assumed office as the third chairman of the council, said, “Participating in the Seoul Downtown Tourism Council has allowed me to learn and feel many things from a new perspective,” and added, “As I have been elected chairman, I will do my best to build a foundation for the Downtown 6 Districts to stand tall through tourism.”
