[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seonsik] Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do is attracting attention by suggesting a special museum date to enjoy the upcoming Christmas.
The city has introduced a travel course where couples and families can visit the Jeollanam-do Provincial Museum of Art and the Seomjingang Small Museum of Art to appreciate sophisticated artworks and soothe their dry emotions during the exciting Christmas season.
At the Jeollanam-do Provincial Museum of Art, the exhibition "When Leaving the Sun" is being held, showcasing works by 14 artists who were born or active in the southern region or inspired by the landscapes and colors of the southern provinces, including Oh Jiho and Woo Jegil.
The exhibition title "When Leaving the Sun" is a phrase excerpted from a piece by painter Oh Jiho published in the inaugural issue of "New Generation" in 1946, capturing the moment when light leaving the sun hits an object and is perceived as color.
This exhibition, which broadly explores the history of Jeollanam-do art from modern to contemporary times, kindly illuminates the background and context of the works by including separate archive materials across various genres such as painting, sculpture, and installation art, encompassing both two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms.
The domestic premiere of the Russian four-member group "AES+F" exhibition "Lost Hybrids, Grinding the Era," closing on the 26th, is also a must-see.
The "AES+F" exhibition has attracted global attention for subverting conventional values and hierarchies, offering visitors fresh imagination along with profound questions.
The 5-meter large Christmas tree installed in the exhibition hall lobby also brings joy to visitors and is popular as a photo zone.
At the Seomjingang Small Museum of Art located in Seomjingang Kkeutdeul Village at the easternmost end of Gwangyang, the exhibition "Seomjingang, Recording and Drawing" is being held.
Following the opening exhibition in November, this planned exhibition features a collaboration between works sketched by the artist and those created by visitors, receiving great acclaim.
The Memory Tree, which uses travel records of Seomjingang such as photos, writings, and drawings left by artists, residents, and travelers, is widely noted as a novel and unique attempt.
Additionally, Baedo Island Garden, Baedo Star Counting Bridge, and Neuraengigol Natural Recreation Forest are also considered popular spots to fully enjoy the Christmas atmosphere.
Park Soon-gi, Director of Tourism, said, "Christmas is an emotional code that gives excitement and expectation to everyone," adding, "We hope you fill your dry winter emotions by appreciating works where lights leaving the sun are reborn as new colors through the eyes of artists."
He continued, "Since the 'When Leaving the Sun' exhibition illuminated in the city of light, Gwangyang, has even more special meaning, we recommend including Baedo Island Garden, Neuraengigol Natural Recreation Forest, and other spots in your travel course."
