[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] On the morning of the 22nd, the National Police Agency held a seminar titled "The Role of the Security Industry in Preparing for the Future Security Environment" at the National Assembly Members' Office Building, jointly with National Assembly Public Administration and Security Committee member Park Jae-ho.
The National Police Agency has been steadily promoting research and development (R&D) projects in the security field to respond to new threats arising from the advancement of science and technology in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution. However, since government-led R&D projects have limitations, the need for linkage and promotion measures with the private industry has also been raised.
This seminar was organized to discuss ways to link security field R&D projects with the private industry. There was a consensus that support is needed so that the entire industrial ecosystem?from proactive technology development to product manufacturing and sales?can be led by the private sector.
Ko Hyung-jun, CEO of Global Open Partners, presented a strategy for revitalizing the security industry by redefining the definition of the security industry and proposing ways to connect sustainable security and industry under the theme of "Strategy for the Promotion of the Security Industry." Additionally, Seo Byung-il, Chairman of the Advanced Safety Industry Association (CEO of Wonwoo ENG), introduced advanced security equipment currently used by local governments and suggested the role of the National Police Agency in the development of the security industry.
Furthermore, Kim Yeon-soo, Professor of Convergence Security at Dongguk University, pointed out the limitations and problems of the current security industry and proposed the necessity of establishing a foundation under the theme "The Government's Role in Promoting the Security Industry." Professor Kim emphasized, "It is necessary to promptly enact the 'Act on the Promotion of the Security Industry,' which was proposed this year and is currently pending in the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee."
