[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] LG Display announced on the 22nd that its eco-friendly touch technology, 'AIT,' has obtained the national certified green technology certification from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
The green technology certification is a certification system granted by the government under the Framework Act on Low Carbon, Green Growth to technologies that save energy and resources and use them efficiently to minimize greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions.
LG Display's independently developed AIT technology features embedding touch sensors and wiring inside the liquid crystal display (LCD), making it thinner and lighter while enhancing touch performance. It is widely used in premium touch LCD products such as electronic whiteboards, kiosks, signage, and automobiles. By eliminating the process of attaching existing touch panels on top of the LCD, it simplifies the manufacturing process and reduces the number of components.
LG Display explained that as a result of applying AIT technology in the process, carbon emissions were reduced by 7,000 tons annually, equivalent to planting about 50,000 pine trees, and the use of the rare metal indium was reduced by up to 68%.
Kim Chang-gon, Head of Circuit Algorithm Research at LG Display, said, "We will focus our capabilities on developing innovative and eco-friendly technologies that can continuously reduce carbon emissions and the use of scarce resources, like AIT technology."

Previously, since 2014, LG Display has formed a dedicated organization to respond to climate change and has continuously engaged in activities for sustainable growth such as reducing carbon emissions, protecting water resources, and recycling waste resources through ongoing environmental investments. Since July this year, to actively participate in the government's 2050 carbon neutrality policy, all domestic business sites including office buildings in Paju and Gumi, as well as the Magok research and development (R&D) building, have been using electricity produced from renewable energy, and they plan to expand this to some production sites in the future.
