[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] Former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon raised his voice, saying he "hates the tyranny of disgusting ideological thugs" regarding the controversy over historical distortion, including the denigration of the democratization movement, surrounding the JTBC drama 'Seolganghwa'.
On the 21st, Jin posted on his Facebook, saying, "Just watch the drama as a drama. Freedom of expression is the cornerstone of a democratic society."
He pointed out, "On one side, there is an uproar claiming the democratization movement was denigrated, and on the other side, people are filing complaints under the National Security Act for glorifying spies," adding, "Though their sides differ, their mentality is the same. Both are enemies of an open society."
He continued, "Those who shake the cornerstone of (a democratic society) must be firmly rejected," and criticized, "By what right do they believe they can infringe on the rights of other viewers?"
Earlier, the drama 'Seolganghwa' was embroiled in controversy even before airing, including accusations of belittling the democratization movement and glorifying the Agency for National Security Planning (ANSP). In response, a Blue House petition to abolish Seolganghwa garnered over 300,000 signatures, and as negative public opinion intensified, advertisers and sponsors announced their intentions to withdraw support for the production one after another.

JTBC stated, "'Seolganghwa' is a creative work that shows the personal stories of those who were exploited and sacrificed by those in power," and added, "Most of the misunderstandings regarding historical distortion and concerns about the denigration of the democratization movement pointed out by many will be resolved as the drama progresses."
