Movie Actor Lee Jung-jae Appointed as Ambassador for '2030 Busan World Expo'
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The '2030 Busan World Expo Bid Committee' appointed actor Lee Jung-jae as its first promotional ambassador on the 22nd at Lotte Hotel in Seoul.
Lee Jung-jae won the Best Actor Award in the Film category at the 2020 Asia Artist Awards. Recently, he has gained worldwide popularity through the Netflix original series 'Ojingeo Geim' (Squid Game).
The appointment ceremony was attended by Kim Young-joo, Chairperson of the Bid Committee; Yeo Han-gu, Director-General for Trade Negotiations at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy; Park Hyung-joon, Mayor of Busan; and Choi Jong-moon, Second Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, who congratulated the appointment and exchanged opinions on future promotional activities for the bid.
Lee Jung-jae will participate in promotional activities for the 2030 World Expo Busan bid, including filming support videos and promotional materials.
Kim Young-joo, Chairperson of the Bid Committee, said, "In a situation where there are many strong competing cities such as Moscow, Russia, and Rome, Italy, it is reassuring to have a globally recognized actor as a promotional ambassador," adding, "We ask for continued support after the appointment."
Yeo Han-gu, Director-General for Trade Negotiations, also said, "I think it is a good start that an actor popular not only in Korea but worldwide has been selected as the promotional ambassador," and added, "We will actively support the bid for the 2030 Busan World Expo, which can promote Korea's vision for a better future to the world."

The schedule for selecting the host city for the 2030 World Expo includes submitting a detailed bid plan in May 2022, an on-site inspection by the International Bureau of Expositions in the second half of the year, and a final decision in the first half of 2023. If Busan wins the bid, the expo will be held under the theme "The Great Transformation of the World, Voyage Toward a Better Future" from May 1 to October 31, 2030, for six months in the North Port area.
