Yeonggwang-gun Awarded 'Excellence Prize' in Regional Economic Revitalization Evaluation

[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jeonseong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Junsung) announced on the 17th that it received the grand prize for two consecutive years in the ‘2021 Regional Economic Revitalization Evaluation’ hosted by Jeollanam-do, along with an institutional commendation and a reward of 10 million won.

This evaluation, aimed at discovering excellent economic policy cases among the 22 cities and counties of Jeollanam-do to improve the quality of life of local residents and revitalize the regional economy, assessed the achievements over the year in 15 indicators across six areas: ▲excellent regional economic revitalization policies ▲price stabilization management ▲support and fostering of small and medium enterprises and small business owners ▲support and fostering of social economy enterprises ▲job creation activation, among others.

As a regional economic revitalization policy, the county promoted the Yeonggwang-type Youth Job Incentive Support Project (26 companies/56 people) to encourage youth living outside the area to reside within the county.

Policies to alleviate the management burden of small business owners and enhance market competitiveness were also implemented, including management stabilization interest support (152 people), Yeonggwang Love Card sales commission support (395 locations), and the establishment of a smart traditional market.

Additionally, the county received high evaluations for fostering small and medium enterprises and social economy enterprises that contribute to productivity improvement and job creation within local companies by implementing policies such as dormitory rental support for industrial complex workers (16 companies/71 people), smart factory dissemination and expansion projects (6 companies), and startup support for prospective social economy entrepreneurs.

A county official said, “Despite the regional economic crisis caused by the spread of COVID-19, we achieved the accomplishment of winning the award for two consecutive years through active economic revitalization measures. We will use this as a driving force to continuously implement excellent policies that can invigorate the county’s regional economy and improve the quality of life for our residents.”
