43 Gas Safety Awardees Honored... "Introduction of Advanced Safety Management Model"
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The '28th Korea Gas Safety Awards,' which honors contributors to gas safety management and the development of the gas industry and pledges safety practices, was held on the 16th at the Grand Ballroom of the Conrad Hotel in Seoul.
This year, government awards were presented in a total of 43 categories to individuals and organizations who contributed to gas safety management.
The Silver Tower Industrial Medal was awarded to Jeong Giseon, Director of the Marine Energy Safety Management Headquarters. Director Jeong contributed to establishing a rapid, field-centered safety management system by developing the advanced safety management model, the smart RMS system, and linking it with the national disaster information system for the first time in the industry.
The Industrial Award was given to Jang Jaegyeong, Director of Korea Gas Safety Corporation, who established a five-year roadmap for training hydrogen specialists and developed related educational programs, and to Lee Changwon, Executive Director of Byeoksan Engineering, who participated in Korea's first liquefied natural gas (LNG) cold energy utilization project and natural gas pipeline design and construction, contributing to supply stabilization.
Im Haejong, President of Korea Gas Safety Corporation, emphasized, "To establish a solid hydrogen safety management system, organic communication and solidarity with related industries are necessary," adding, "We must transition to safety management methods suitable for the post-COVID-19 era and introduce a new safety management model led by the private sector."
As a side event, an international seminar was held to review the latest technologies and global standard trends in the liquefied hydrogen field and explore ways to apply them to the domestic hydrogen ecosystem. Thomas Jordan, Head of the Hydrogen Group at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany; Gi Danghui, International Hydrogen Safety Expert at Air Liquide in France; and Tim Miller, CEO of Taylor Wharton in the United States, attended and gave presentations on the topics.

The event, held with online live streaming, was attended by related organization representatives and gas industry workers, including Kang Kyungseong, Director of the Energy Industry Office at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy; Lee Hakyoung, Chairman of the National Assembly Industry, Trade, Energy, Small and Medium Enterprises Committee; Park Jihyun, President of Korea Electrical Safety Corporation; and Park Youngsook, Representative of the Citizens' Coalition for Safety Practice, as well as award recipients.
