Ulsan Office of Education Enhances Balanced Development and Transparency of Private Schools through Management Evaluation of Private Educational Institutions
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Trainee Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education selected Hyundai Academy and Saegil Academy as excellent corporations in the ‘2021 Private School Institution Management Evaluation.’
The Private School Institution Management Evaluation is conducted to secure the public nature and transparency of private school institutions by strengthening self-reliance capabilities for financial soundness, improving the qualitative level of education, actively recognizing changes in the educational administrative environment, and complying with laws and regulations.
The evaluation selected excellent corporations based on written evaluations and management evaluation team results targeting 11 school corporations and 14 private schools within Ulsan.
The Office of Education stated that it formed a dedicated team for private school institution management evaluation and made efforts to ensure fairness and transparency of the evaluation by conducting mutual cross-checks among school corporations.
Hyundai Academy received high scores in the items of payment of statutory charges and appropriateness of management of basic property for profit use, while Saegil Academy scored highly in transparency of new teacher recruitment and achievements in attracting external funds.
Ulsan Office of Education stated that transparency in financial management of school corporations and staff recruitment were important variables in selecting excellent corporations.
The amount of statutory charges paid by private schools in Ulsan increased for two consecutive years, and external funds of 1,036 million KRW were attracted from local companies and others as of 2020.
Saegil Academy was designated as a spatial information specialized high school by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport for fostering talents for the 4th Industrial Revolution and attracted 100 million KRW in external funds.

Based on the evaluation results, the Office of Education plans to award prize money to excellent school corporations and disclose the results on the city education office website.
