Government Freezes Coal and Yeontan Prices for 3 Consecutive Years... Highest Price per Yeontan Sheet at 639 Won
Coal (Grade 4 Standard) Costs 186,540 Won per Ton
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The government will freeze coal and briquette prices for the third consecutive year.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 16th that it will freeze the prices of domestically produced coal and briquettes through the official notice on the designation of the maximum selling price for anthracite coal and briquettes this year.
According to this year's government-notified prices, coal (grade 4 standard) is 186,540 KRW per ton, and briquettes (factory price standard) are 639 KRW per piece (based on the maximum price).
An official from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy stated, "Considering the heating cost burden on low-income households comprehensively, we have maintained the price freeze policy since 2019, and have decided to continue the price freeze this year as well."
The ministry will also provide low-income households with briquette coupons worth 472,000 KRW per household, the same as last year. To improve convenience, the coupons will be issued in the form of electronic cards, resolving the inconvenience of the previous paper coupon format.
