KT Roadeyes Achieves 'Top Grade' in Basic Performance Evaluation of Intelligent Transportation System
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] KT announced on the 16th that its video artificial intelligence (AI) traffic analysis solution, 'RoadEyes,' received a 'top-grade' evaluation in the basic performance assessment for intelligent transportation system (ITS) vehicle detectors conducted by the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology.
RoadEyes is KT's self-developed traffic analysis solution based on a video AI deep learning model. It features high recognition accuracy by being able to separate and identify overlapping subjects. It achieves a traffic volume and speed measurement accuracy of 98% even under streetlight illumination at night, vehicle headlights, severe weather, fog, and smog conditions.
Instead of conventional expensive individual detectors, RoadEyes calculates traffic volume and speed from traffic closed-circuit (CCTV) video footage, providing traffic information by roadway and lane. It can also recognize unexpected situations such as wrong-way driving, shoulder parking, and falling objects, making it applicable in various traffic fields.
The certification RoadEyes received this time is in the vehicle detector category of the ITS basic performance evaluation conducted by the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology. A top-grade rating is given if accuracy in traffic volume, speed, and occupancy rate exceeds 95%. RoadEyes achieved high accuracy in all evaluation standard times, including sunrise, sunset, and day and night environments, earning the top-grade result.
KT plans to commercialize RoadEyes in the Ulsan next-generation intelligent transportation system (C-ITS) project to solidify its position as a digital transformation (DX) operator in traffic safety business and apply it to related projects in Bucheon, Gwangyang, and Seongnam cities.
