Residents Promote Village Community Revival Through Hands-On Events and Activities

Gokseong-gun Wins Grand Prize at Cheongjeong Jeonnam Euddeummal Achievement Competition

[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Cha Jong-sun] Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 15th that it won the Grand Prize at the Clean Jeonnam Euddeum Village Achievement Competition hosted by Jeollanam-do on December 14 and received a prize fund of 50 million won.

The Clean Jeonnam Euddeum Village project is a resident autonomy project where residents cultivate their villages by themselves. It was first promoted by Jeollanam-do this year and is being recognized as a catalyst for overcoming COVID-19 blues and restoring the village community atmosphere.

The winning village receives a total of 9 million won over three years, 3 million won annually, as village development project funds. Residents use the funds to directly carry out projects aligned with the village development direction.

This achievement competition was held to share the results of each village's projects throughout the year and to celebrate outstanding villages. Awards were given to the Grand Prize (Boseong-gun), Excellence Awards (Gokseong-gun, Naju-si), Merit Awards (Yeosu-si, Haenam-gun, Jangseong-gun), and 50 excellent villages with certificates and project funds.

In Gokseong-gun, Guwon 2-gu Village in Gokseong-eup, Yujeong 1-gu Village in Seokgok-myeon, and Juksan Village in Gyeom-myeon were selected as excellent villages. These villages were evaluated as having revived the village community by jointly promoting apple experience events, village festivals, village fence mural painting, and the creation of village rest areas.

So far, Gokseong-gun has actively supported the Clean Jeonnam Euddeum Village project. First, it established a local community system and formed a public-private cooperation support group prioritizing resident participation. Based on this, it solidified the foundation of the Gokseong-style village-making project by producing and distributing a village activity menu, organizing and operating a village project monitoring group, and linking villages with local resources.

A county official said, “We hope that through Euddeum Village, the power of sharing and solidarity will widely spread throughout the region. We will continue to support the creation of a happy community through the revitalization of resident autonomy.”
