Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Wins 110 Billion KRW ESS Order in Australia
US Subsidiary Doosan GridTech Executes EPC and Maintenance Services
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hye-young] Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction announced on the 15th that it has secured an energy storage system (ESS) project worth 110 billion KRW in Australia, together with its U.S. subsidiary Doosan GridTech.
The Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction?Doosan GridTech consortium announced that it received a notice to proceed for the Australian ‘Capital ESS’ project from Neoen, a French renewable energy developer, on the same day.
The Doosan Heavy Industries consortium plans to install the ESS in the Jerrabomberra area of Canberra, Australia’s capital, using the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) method by March 2023. After project completion, it will also be responsible for maintenance and operation (O&M) for 20 years. The ESS battery capacity is 200MW, which is enough to supply electricity to approximately 25,000 households for one day.
The ESS to be supplied this time is equipped with Doosan GridTech’s control software DG-IC (Doosan GridTech-Intelligent Controller). It will operate by storing electricity during periods of low power consumption and supplying it during peak demand times.
As the proportion of renewable energy generation continues to increase in Australia, the demand for ESS is also rapidly growing. According to Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF), an energy market analysis firm, the Australian ESS market (cumulative installed capacity) is expected to grow more than 20 times over 10 years, from 1.9GWh in 2020 to 40GWh in 2030.
