[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 14th that it has been selected for the "2023 Local Government International Sports Event National Subsidy Project," receiving 250 million KRW in national funding, following the confirmation of hosting the "2022 Korea Open Badminton Championships."
The Korea Open Badminton Championships is an international tournament officially certified by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), featuring top-ranked badminton players worldwide.
The city applied for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's "Local Government International Sports Event National Subsidy Project" for this international event and was finally selected, laying the foundation for a successful hosting.
The tournament will be held for six days from April 5 to 10 next year at the Palma Gymnasium in Suncheon City, with approximately 650 participants including players and officials from 25 countries, allowing spectators to watch world-class matches live at the Palma Gymnasium.
Additionally, the event will be broadcast to 20 countries worldwide, promoting the 2023 Suncheonman International Garden Expo and Suncheon as the ecological capital of Korea to the world. The influx of athletes, officials, enthusiasts, and spectators during the event is also expected to have a significant positive impact on the local economy.
