One More Inmate Tests Positive for COVID-19 at Seoul Dongbu Detention Center
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] Amid a COVID-19 cluster infection at Hongseong Correctional Institution in Chungnam, additional confirmed cases have emerged at Seoul Eastern Detention Center.
According to the Ministry of Justice on the 14th, a mass testing conducted on approximately 490 staff members and 1,990 inmates at Seoul Eastern Detention Center resulted in one female inmate testing positive.
The Ministry of Justice stated that while conducting an epidemiological investigation, additional PCR tests will be carried out on female staff and female inmates. It also announced that mass testing of about 70,000 staff and inmates nationwide at correctional facilities will begin today and continue for three days.
Since one inmate transferred from Seoul Detention Center to Eastern Detention Center tested positive on the 8th, a total of six confirmed cases have been reported up to today.

Previously, at Hongseong Correctional Institution, a total of 30 people, including three staff members and 27 inmates, tested positive for COVID-19 the day before.
