Korea Tourism Organization Selected as a Safe Non-Face-to-Face Winter Travel Destination
[Wanju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Han-ho] Wanju-gun announced on the 13th that the cypress forest located in Gonggi Village, Sang-gwan-myeon, has been selected as one of Korea's representative winter non-face-to-face safe tourist destinations by the Korea Tourism Organization.
According to the county, the Korea Tourism Organization announced "25 Winter Season Non-Face-to-Face Safe Tourist Destinations" where travelers can safely travel in winter, considering phased daily recovery and new normal travel chosen by experts, and Gonggi Village Cypress Forest was included.
Gonggi Village in Jukrim-ri, Sang-gwan-myeon, is a small mountain village under Hanobong Peak (570m). The surrounding mountains form a concave shape around the village, resembling a rice bowl, which is how the village got its name.
Since the forest greening project in 1976, village residents have personally planted cypress trees, and currently, about 100,000 cypress, pine nut, cedar, and paulownia trees form a dense forest covering approximately 86 hectares.
In particular, hiking trails, walking paths, and parking lots have been established, and the walking paths where visitors can enjoy the phytoncide scent of cypress trees total 8 km, consisting of 4 courses.
The most popular course among them is a roughly 2 km trail starting from the Cypress Forest Tourist Information Center, passing through the forest bathing area and the gate.
At the end of the walking path, there is an open-air sulfur foot bath where visitors can warm up their tired bodies from winter walks and hikes.
Meanwhile, this year, Wanju-gun was selected by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization as a wellness tourist destination (Guian-deok Village), spring non-face-to-face safe tourist destinations (Gyeongcheon Singgeuraengi Ecoville and Hwaamsa Temple), April recommended tourist destination (Soyang Oseong Hanok Village), September recommended tourist destination (Samnye Book Village & Picture Book Museum), November recommended tourist destination (Wanju Mangyeong River Trail), 2021 top 12 industrial tourist destinations (Samnye Culture and Arts Village), and national scenic site (Wibong Waterfall).
