Yeosu Industrial Complex Continues Steady Economic Recovery Trend
Yeosu Industrial Complex Production Value Up 69% and Export Value Up 98.2% Compared to Same Period Last Year
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Sim Kyung-taek] The economy of the Jeonnam Yeosu National Industrial Complex showed a clear recovery in the refining and petrochemical sectors for the second consecutive quarter. Compared to the same period last year, production value increased by 69%, and export value rose by 98.2%.
According to the "2021 3/4 Quarter Yeosu Regional Economic Trend Report," which was surveyed and analyzed by the Yeosu Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the regional economic trends in the third quarter of 2021, the third-quarter production performance of the Yeosu National Industrial Complex was approximately KRW 20.1864 trillion, a 69.0% increase compared to the same period last year (KRW 11.9443 trillion), and a 9.7% increase compared to the previous quarter (KRW 18.3978 trillion).
Export performance also showed a clear recovery in the refining and petrochemical sectors, with exports reaching USD 8.558 billion, a 98.2% increase compared to the same period last year (USD 4.317 billion), and a 21.2% increase compared to the previous quarter (USD 7.06 billion).
The tax collection performance of Yeosu City in the third quarter, combining provincial tax, city tax, and arrears collection, was KRW 147.6 billion, a 6.0% decrease compared to the same period last year. Among these, provincial tax collection was KRW 53.7 billion, down 29.4% year-on-year, while city tax was KRW 96.2 billion, up 13.2% year-on-year.
The fisheries industry recorded a catch volume of 8,796 tons in the third quarter, a 9.7% decrease compared to the same period last year, and the auction amount also decreased by 5.8% to KRW 41.3 billion compared to the same period last year.
The number of railway passengers in the third quarter was 198,778 boarding passengers and 200,629 alighting passengers, showing a decrease of 2.8% and 5.6%, respectively, compared to the same period last year. Compared to the previous quarter, boarding passengers increased by 0.6%, while alighting passengers decreased by 0.7%.
The number of passengers using Yeosu Airport in the third quarter was 275,046, a 34.6% increase compared to the same period last year, but a 12.6% decrease compared to the previous quarter.
By route, the Yeosu-Seoul route recorded 205,624 passengers, a 51.3% increase compared to the same period last year, and the Yeosu-Jeju route recorded 69,442 passengers, a 1.4% increase compared to the same period last year.
The number of tourists visiting Yeosu in the third quarter this year was approximately 1.91 million, a 24.6% decrease compared to the same period last year.
