Lotte Construction Establishes Dedicated ESG Department: "Towards a Company-wide ESG Operating System"
On the 10th, Lotte Construction announced that it has established a dedicated ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) department to practice sustainable management that creates both financial and non-financial corporate value.
The ESG department plans to strategically establish clear ESG directions demanded by society based on the company's core business capabilities and devise measures that can impact customer value.
Its main tasks will include formulating mid- to long-term ESG promotion strategies and activity plans, analyzing the ESG management environment, planning and operating social contribution activities, promoting sustainable management reports, and responding to external disclosures and evaluations.
Lotte Construction has been practicing ESG management through diverse water-related construction projects and continuous research and development aimed at preserving aquatic ecosystems. It has constructed sewage treatment facilities, sewage reuse facilities, water purification plants, water and sewage pipelines, and a heating and cooling system using thermal energy from the Lotte World Tower, while researching and developing related technologies to improve water resources.
Additionally, in June, it signed a business agreement with the Ministry of Environment, Chungcheongnam-do Province, Nonsan City, and Hyundai Motor Securities to transition to a hydrogen economy city. The agreement aims to create an eco-friendly hydrogen economy ecosystem in Nonsan City by establishing energy infrastructure such as ▲hydrogen fuel cell power plants ▲hydrogen charging stations ▲smart farms ▲resource recycling hydrogen production, all based on the hydrogen economy for achieving carbon neutrality, and to accelerate new technology development to realize energy innovation.
At Lotte Mall Hanoi, currently under construction in Vietnam, concrete was developed and poured that reduces carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 36% compared to conventional concrete mixes and improves durability. By using ground granulated blast furnace slag powder and coal ash as substitutes, which emit about 3% of the carbon dioxide compared to cement, this technology contributes to greenhouse gas reduction and environmental preservation. Applying this technology reduced carbon dioxide emissions by about 4,920 tons.
Since 2011, the Sharotte Volunteer Group, composed of employees, has been conducting various social contribution activities such as environmental cleanup, facility improvements, and cultural volunteering for vulnerable groups in the local community.
